Assignments Week of May 10th

Ok guys! This is the week BEFORE West Test- so we have a lot of reviewing to do this week.

Basically we will be doing practice questions/review for Reading/Language Arts, Science, SS and Math all week.

Monday we will be singing our cell songs in science

All week in SS we will be taking care of deposits, writing checks and balancing the check books. The kids will have rent due soon, and they are trying to make sure to still have enough money to have a popcorn movie day after west test next week. I’ve been rewarding them and fining them all week for behavior, so it should be interestingJ

In Math this week, along with the reviewing, we will be learning about graphs, ordered pairs, and probability.

In science, we will be watching some science videos targeting life science, earth science and physical science, they are really awesome video’s that kind of reviews a lot of concepts in a fun way!!

We are almost done so just hand in there!!!

Edible Jello Animal Cell- Trial 1

Our first trial of our edible cell didn't go so well. We did learn alot of things and we are trying again today.

Things we learned:

-The jello must be completly firm- not almost firm
- M & M's, Laffy Taffy and sprinkles are not good candy choices as the coatings melt and the colors go everywhere. The laffy taffy got really slimy.

- The little baggies were not a good choice either.

Things we are changing for trial 2:

- using clear plasic containers
- letting the jello set until firm
- using corn kernels as the lysosomes instead of sprinkles
- using cherry slice gumdrops instead of laffy taffy
- using smarties intead of m & m's
- and we might use a spoon to hallow out holes to put our candy in and then put more jello that has already set up on top of it so that our candy really looks like it is in the center of the cell.

If our 2nd trial works- you'll find out tomorrow and hopefully we'll have some pictures too:)

Language Project: You Be the Teacher!
This is a fun project and it’s a GREAT review for language skills right before the West Test.
Basically, each student will become the Language Teacher. They will each get a language skill such as nouns, adjectives, etc. And they will have to “teach” it to the class. They will come up with a mini lesson and a little activity- maybe a game or a “test” as well. They really love this one!

Also- for about 15 minutes before lunch we will be continuing to play our book report games

Tuesday- Thursday: Create a Cell song- it can be rap, country, jazz, whatever you want. Make up your own tune or use the tune of your favorite song, but the song must educate us about Plant and Animal Cells

SS: Economy Unit:
We will be participating in an economy unit. We will be learning about money and banking, and jobs, etc.
This is a fun unit- but it could take about 2 weeks to complete!

Edible Animal Cell Project

We are learning about plant and animal cells in science class right now. Next week, we would like to make an edible animal cell! I’d love to be able to have each student make their own cell, but to do that, I’m going to need some help from you guys. We will need several different candy pieces to do this.
Below you will see a list of the items needed. The students have signed up to bring in certain items. Thankfully we have a big class, so not all the students will have to bring in something.

4th Grade Crazy Creations project: Rdg and Language Project
We are presenting our crazy creations today!!!

SS: Civil War Stimulation- 5 days
Overview:
Students will learn about the critical period in American history by reliving some of the events of the Civil War. They will re-create some of the experiences of the people who were living in a nation at war with itself. By taking the perspective of a historical character living through the war, students will see that history is so much more than just names, dates, and places, but rather the real experiences of people like themselves.

SS: History book report week

- some examples are The Story of the Liberty Bell and The Story of the Flight at Kitty Hawk.
