Assignments Week of March 15th



It's VERY IMPORTANT to bring this work back in if we do have school as we will be doing it here in class. These will be counted as grades!


READING: SWITCH- if you were reading Frindle, you'll now Read Wayside School, etc.


Because we don't have enough books for us all to be reading the same novel, I've had to break the class into two groups and assign two different stories. We will rotate the stories when we finish.


Frindle:

Monday: Read chapters 1-3- do questions

Tuesday: Chapters 4-5 and questions

Wednesday: Chapters 6-8 and questions

Thursday: Chapters 9-10 and questions

Friday: Chapters 11-12 and questions

Monday: Chapters 13-15 and questions


Sideways Stories from Wayside School

Monday: Just read Introduction to Chapter 3

Tueday: Chapters 4-6 and do questions from Introduction-chapter 6

Wednesday: Chapters 7-12 and questions

Thursday: Chapters 13-18 and questions

Friday: Chapters 19-24 and questions

Monday: Chapters 25-30 and questions



NEW: We are also working on a 4th Grade Genre Project. The students will be researching different genre's and then they will be selecting their favorite genre, and together with a partner, write and illustrate a book of that genre. We will be working on this until for about 2 weeks maybe.


Writing: CONTINUE- We will be taking our assessment around the end of the month/beginning of April

Writing Assessment Prep- work on this Monday, Wednesday and Friday

ok- the writing assessment is RIGHT around the corner. It's very important you prepare for this at home as well.

We've been learning about the 5 paragraph essay and key points to writing. The kids have been giving a writing packet with transition works, good choice words, etc.

I'm also including in this packet the guidelines to a 5 paragraph essay as well as a sample essay.

If the kids have to write a free lance story, where there are no specific guidelines, it's important to use lots of puncuation, quotations, good choice words, and paragraphs dividing your thoughts.


You will be given two writing prompts to work on next week.



Language: Figurative Language

Similes, metaphors, idioms, puns and personification

Language: Synonyms, Antonyms and Homonyms


Synonyms are different words which have the same meaning, or almost the same meaning.

Ex: stones and rocks, chair and seat, go and leave baby and infant


Antonyms are words which have opposite meanings

EX: short and tall, real and unreal hot and cold, hard and soft


Homonyms is a word that has the same pronunciation and spelling as another word, but a different meaning

EX: punch ( a drink) and punch (to hit), bat ( an animal) and bat ( baseball bat)

You are to write a narrative essay. Remember to use transition words, good choice words, complete paragraphs and sentences, and capitalization.

You will be given the prompt and a writing guideline to follow in a packet.


Please have the finalized essay back to school on Friday.
